Wasted 0.8.5 Released - a shower of bug fixes!
In this new release we focused on making wasted more stable than ever. Fixing many bugs ranging from UI to crashes, this release is supposed to fix all the problem emerged with the 0.8.0 release and even managed to introduce some new feature! Also, check out how the cars look now with a better glossmap and normal map. I am curious to hear your feedback ;)
Hi there. The bug fixing release 0.8.5 is finally ready! Let's explore what's new and what was fixed in this release.
Tracks
A really cool update brought a new Mechanic into Wasted: explosive barrel.
Now map makers can add explosive object which explode upon contact and eliminate the player.

UI
The player elimination icon was updated and we added a tooltip feature to all the menu icons to better explain what every game mode is about.
We also don't show the player's own name during the match. This will clear the player's view a bit.
Some small fixes for the space of the player's name on the podium were also added to this release and a huge change for this release is actually the bug fix of on resizable screens.
Now Screens resize properly and this was made possible by the code already merged in STK 1.4, backported to Wasted. It was a hard task given how many things we miss that are available in stk but eventually we made it.
Our own implementation used for the chat box during matches was replaced by a better all-purpose implementation used by STK.
Build
Many build related bugs were fixed. For example now Appimages will run on systems with libfuse3 which don't ship with libfuse2 by default!
In the prebuilt binaries the run script won't be included anymore. Instead we replaced it with a .desktop file which makes it easier to run the game from a file manager (just double click) and integrate it better with your DE.
A new Release script was also created which allows us to release faster when needed.
Bug fixes
Tests were failing when being executed one after another. Sometimes the game would also crash after the match ended. That is also fixed now.
After a "car change" powerup, the nitro would be reset and the lights were not removed if you were braking making some float lights appear. Both bugs are gone now!
A nasty bug was causing problems when starting the game and showing the screen blurred without the in-game pause modal being opened. Also the camera sometimes would not be initialized properly. They are gone now.
In older Wasted releases the focus in the chat box would not be released after sending a message. That is indeed a thing of the past now. After pressing "Send", you are immediately back to action.
The chat history is also being saved now and won't disappear if you pause the game.
Dependencies
SDL2 was updated to a more recent version 2.28.0
Cars
We added proper gloss maps and normal maps to all the car models, making them look much better in my opinion.
