Motivation


In 2021, Franzbonanza started Wasted to fill the space left by GTA SAMP Derby Destruction minigame servers, a vehicle-combat gamemode that was unfortunately not so popular anymore among Gta San Andreas players. He initially tried to create a new game trying to fork Yorg: a pretty car racing game made in Python made by Flavio Calva. But he realized he needed something different for his project. Franz shared his ideas on gaming forums and social media platforms, and formed a loose team from around the world while building the tools for a new game. Namely: CrystalTheEevee, who added car designs, and Spongycake, who supported gameplay.

As more people joined the project in the following months, Franz then declared SuperTuxKart as the game's new base of development. Franz's reason was tied to the fact SuperTuxKart had an impressive toolset offering solid coding and testing environments. However, as a new battle mode was introduced, Wasted began to deviate from SuperTuxKart.

Wasted remains committed to free software ideals, striving to produce a high-quality game that can both meet industry standards and become a popular hit. The team's development model is publicly available, and they actively encourage others to participate in the game's making. With this level of collaboration and dedication, the Wasted team is excited to showcase their game to the world and create an unforgettable experience for all players.



Progress


During these years, the project was developed without any break.
We started with a demo in 2021 to have a working game in 2023!
First release was a test release in December 2022 followed by 0.1
which started to deliver the main features of the game.

With Version 0.2 and 0.3 a lot of work went into a custom camera mode
which allows the user to freely rotate the camera with the mouse,
improving the game mode, Windows version, powerups and bug fixing.
Now our main objective is to bring the game to a new level
and allow everybody to play seamlessly.

With 0.4 release we improved the physics of the game and made it
funnier trying to imitate the old GTA SA experience.
We also changed how the camera works and we
added the handbrake to all cars!

For 0.5 we want to create an unique playlist of music and radios with CC music only
and with funny spots bringing back the old GTA vibes!
We are now reaching our goal for 0.5 tackling many bugs
and working on many new features.

With the release of 0.6, we finally introduced the radio station
feature featuring 3 different radio stations.
A lot of new little things were introduced such as improved nitro sfx
and skidmark sound, an ARM64 build and a lot of bugs were fixed!

With the introduction of release 0.7, we focused on fixing the release process,
getting dependencies right
and allow the players to use the chat in a non-painful way.
Now you can use the chat in a separate dialog instead of pausing the menu!
Also, the game now features more music and jingles, better sounds,
a new car and much more!

After the release of 0.7, we stopped on gathering some nice things to have and writing down bugs
we would like to be fixed before the release of version 1.0.
A new 0.7.5 release came out on July to add new small features, and fix some bugs followed by
the 0.7.8 were we prepared a special release for the upcoming onFOSS event and finally introduced
a 3rd derby map.

Planks Derby

Born as a test map, and copy of the
original derby minigame map,
this is a very simple and fun one.
Just drive carefully around the map and you

SkatePark

The coolest map of the game,
made by Blenderdumbass.
It has many references to
his game "Dani's race"
sequel of "Moria's Race" short film.


Sandpit

A very big map, made by
Blenderdumbass.
It is somehow based on a different concept rather
than the classic suspended map in the sky.
Ideal for 4+ players.
